How The Program Works

It is very easy to sell a Green Dot prepaid debit card to your customer;

1.   Customer comes into store with cash in hand, for instance $109.95, takes a Green Dot reference card to the clerk and asks to buy a Green Dot card.

2.   Clerk obtains ONLY cash and rings up a sale for the TOTAL amount of money.  In this case $100.00 to be applied to the card plus a $9.95 activation fee.

3.   Clerk keys in cash amount, $100 into the processing terminal.  Terminals are programmed to accept denominations from $20 to $500.

4.   The Terminal routes this transaction and directly to Green Dot.

5.   Green Dot releases a PIN# (similar to a wireless PIN) and the terminal prints
out a receipt with the PIN number printed on it.

6.   The Clerk gives the receipt with the PIN# back to the customer.  The receipt
will contain a short text message that includes an activation url and phone number.

7.  The customer calls the 800# on the receipt to activate their card.  During the activation process Green Dot will ask for the following:  PIN# on receipt, SSN, ITIN or Mexican Consulate #, the customer’s name, address, phone, date of birth and email address information.

8.   At the conclusion of a successful activation process, the customer will receive their MasterCard number, including expiration month/date, a secret PIN number and a three digit security code for the card.  This information will enable the customer to use their card immediately, for any online or phone purchase or anywhere a physical debit card is not required.  The customer can also add funds to their card using this information, prior to receipt of their embossed card.

9.   Once the activation process is complete. an embossed Green Dot debit card will be mailed to the address given at the time of activation.  Green Dot will only mail cards to addresses within the U.S.  Typically, the embossed card arrives seven business days after the activation process is complete.  There is an option to have the embossed card sent via express, in order to receive it two business days upon activation via FedEx.  There is an additional fee of $19.95
